Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have issued clarity regarding their participation in a friendly match in Lesotho, which comes a day after their first match of the new 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
Amakhosi are expected to begin their new campaign with an away fixture against newly promoted side Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening, 1 August 2026.
The club recently returned from what they described as a productive pre-season training camp in Spain. Chiefs were based in the Mediterranean coastal city of Alicante, where they played three practice matches.
Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw against Scottish giants Rangers, followed by another 1-1 draw against Saudi Pro League club Al Kholood, before wrapping up their tour with a 2-1 defeat to Spanish La Liga side Elche CF.
KAIZER CHIEFS CONFIRM MORE DETAILS REGARDING FRIENDLY MATCH IN LESOTHO
Chiefs are set for another pre-season test when they face Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC in the third annual Toyota Cup at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace in Rustenburg on Sunday, 26 July 2026.
However, the club also has a friendly match scheduled for Sunday, 2 August, against Lesotho Premier League side Lifofane FC at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru. The club has since clarified that its DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] team will honour the fixture.
“The Kaizer Chiefs team invited to play Lifofane FC on 02 August 2026 is the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge team,” the club said in a short statement on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi are expected to officially unveil their three new signings when they face Scottland FC in Rustenburg.
The club confirmed the signing of defensive midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko from Tanzanian side Azam FC on a permanent deal on Tuesday.
Bitegeko is Chiefs’ third signing of the current transfer window, following the arrivals of Bafana Bafana defender Thabo Moloisane from Stellenbosch FC and former Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.
