Kaizer Chiefs have officialised the permanent acquisition of forward Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian powerhouse CR Belouizdad, triggering the buy option in his contract ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign.

Amakhosi have reached an agreement with CR Belouizdad for the transfer of Mayo after the highly-rated striker spent the previous campaign on a season-long loan with the club.

Mayo initially arrived at Chiefs at the start of the 2025/26 season on loan from the Algerian giants to play under the then-head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who parted ways with the club in September 2025.

In his first season at Chiefs, the Bafana Bafana international battled with persistent injuries, which hindered his progress at the club.

The former Cape Town City FC star was in and out of the starting line-up at the Naturena-based side but still managed to prove his qualities whenever called upon to play. Mayo featured in 14 appearances across all competitions at Chiefs and found the back of the net twice.

Despite a slow start to life at Chiefs, the 27-year-old has been offered a permanent contract, although the club didn’t disclose the length of his new deal. The ex-Richards Bay FC man will be hoping to rediscover his best form under new coach Fernando Da Cruz as the Betway Premiership season is set to kick off on the 1st of August 2026.

Mayo will compete with players such as Wandile Duba, Flavio Silva, and Etiosa Ighodaro in the striking department, while Ashley Du Preez is facing an uncertain future at Chiefs.

The 2025 Nedbank Cup champions announced the decision to retain the services of Mayo on Thursday, expressing their delight at strengthening their attacking options.

โ€œKaizer Chiefs have completed the permanent signing of Khanyisa Mayo from Algerian giants CR Belouizdad, following his loan spell with the Glamour Boys last season. The deal was finalised for an undisclosed fee agreed upon between the two clubs.โ€ Chiefs said on their website.

โ€œMayo, who worked hard during his one-season loan stint, now commits his future to Chiefs as the team prepares for an ambitious campaign under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. The 27-year-old forward will be a key part of the squad competing in both the domestic league and continental CAF competitions.

โ€œKnown for his pace, creativity, and eye for goal, Mayo has already established himself as a fan favourite at Naturena. His permanent move strengthens Amakhosiโ€™s attacking options and signals the clubโ€™s intent to challenge for glory both locally and across Africa. We welcome Khanyisa officially and look forward to his continued contributions.โ€
