Marumo Gallants chairman Abram Sello has confirmed that midfielder Ibrahim Bance is unlikely to return to the club for the 2026/27 season after the two parties failed to reach an agreement over an option in his contract.
The highly rated Burkinabe midfielder was one of Gallants’ standout performers last season, attracting interest from several clubs following an impressive Betway Premiership campaign.
The 25-year-old has not been included in the club’s squad for the new season, further signalling the end of his spell at Gallants. Responding to FARPost, Sello revealed that the club had attempted to activate an option to retain Bance’s services, but negotiations ultimately broke down.
“The situation with the two Ivorians [meant foreign players] we had last season. They specifically signed a one-year contract, and then we had to do an option as well,” said Sello.
“But as you know, everything is negotiable if everything goes according to arrangement. It seems like we may not have him. We tried to do the option, but the negotiation didn’t go well. We may not have him even this season.”
Sello added that the club remains committed to promoting talent through its development structures.
“We are in the development system and promoting players to make sure that everyone we play and bring on becomes a success,” he added.
BANCE SET FOR NEW CHALLENGE
Bance has not reported for Gallants’ pre-season training, fuelling speculation over his future in recent weeks. His contractual situation has made him an attractive option for clubs both locally and abroad.
Sources close to the player’s camp have indicated that he is eager to test himself at a higher level, with North Africa understood to be one of his preferred destinations.
Gallants’ confirmation effectively brings an end to Bance’s stint at the club as he prepares for the next chapter of his career.
Meanwhile, Gallants have bolstered their squad ahead of the new season, with Botswana international Thabang Sesinyi headlining the club’s latest arrivals. He is joined by Thato Mohlamme, Thulani Zandamela, Thokozani Lukhele, Prince Manku, Mlungisi Sikakane, Patrick Motsoeneng, Khomotso Marebane, Samkelo Sihlali, Thabiso Mkhwanazi, Onalenna Lepelesana and Lebogang Button.
Bahlabane Ba Ntwa will have to wait a little longer to begin their Betway Premiership campaign after their opening fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns was postponed. Sundowns requested the postponement following the death of Jayden Adams and other logistical considerations.
The match is tentatively scheduled to be played on 19 August.
