Zimbabwean PSL side FC Platinum have announced the appointment of South African tactician Thabo Senong as their new head coach as they look to end the season on a high.
Senong replaces Joel Luphahla, who has been sacked due to poor results after 25 matches in the 2026 season. The 45-year-old will be assisted by Moses Mwafulira and Alexio Sigion.
Senong returns to Zimbabwe for another chapter after a botched stint with Highlanders FC earlier this year. He arrived in Bulawayo in January ready to start a two-year contract, but his tenure ended abruptly, and he was replaced by former Manchester City FC forward Benjani Mwaruwari.
He inherits a team, FC Platinum, that has won four league titles in the last decade. Three of the titles were won under former Chippa United mentor Norman Mapeza and one under Lizwe Sweswe.
As it stands, FC Platinum are 11th in the 18-team league with 31 points. Senong will be expected to help them win the remaining nine matches and secure a top-eight finish, with hopes of also winning the inaugural Munhumutapa Cup. He will also be expected to ensure victory in the 2026 Chibuku Super Cup.
FC PLATINUM CONFIRMS THABO SENONG’S APPOINTMENT
In a statement on Tuesday, FC Platinum confirmed Senong’s appointment, subject to the completion of contractual and registration formalities.
“FC Platinum has mutually parted ways with Head Coach Joel Luphahla and members of his technical staff. We would like to express our gratitude to Coach Luphahla and his team for their dedication, hard work and contributions to the Club. We wish them continued success in their future endeavours,” said the club.
“The Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Thabo Senong as Head Coach, subject to the completion of contractual and registration formalities. In the interim, Coaches Moses Mwafulira and Alexio Sigion will take charge of training and preparations for the team.
