Former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng has made his mark in Europe after lifting the Belgian Super Cup with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Friday night.
‘Rele’, as he is affectionately known in football circles, came off the bench in the 61st minute and played a pivotal role in the cup triumph—coolly converting the decisive penalty in a 5–4 shootout victory over Club Brugge after a 1–1 draw.
CLUB BRUGGE FIRST TO SCORE AT JAN BREYDEL STADIUM
The match took place at the Jan Breydel Stadium in Bruges. Host side Club Brugge broke the deadlock early in the second half when Nicolò Tresoldi found the net in the 49th minute.
However, Union SG bounced back to level the contest through Kevin Mac Allister in the 77th minute. With the two sides deadlocked at 1–1 after 90 minutes, the match moved straight to penalties, setting the stage for Mofokeng’s heroic moment.
RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG WINS TROPHY BARELY A MONTH IN EUROPE
Mofokeng’s silverware victory comes barely a month after completing his move abroad. The Belgian Pro League outfit officially unveiled the talented attacker on Thursday, 2 July 2026.
The talented player, also nicknamed ‘President Yama 2000’, Mofokeng secured his move to Europe following a stellar campaign with reigning Betway Premiership champions, Orlando Pirates.
He played an instrumental role in helping the Soweto giants clinch their first league title in 14 years last season, contributing 10 goals and eight assists in 27 league appearances.
RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG’S 2026 PSL AWARDS SWEEP
His satisfying displays saw him win three awards at the 2026 PSL awards that took place on Monday, 27 July. He was honoured as the Footballer of the Season, the Betway Premiership Players’ Player of the Season, and also received the Betway Premiership Young Player of the Season.
After being the biggest winner at the PSL awards, this immediate trophy success with Union SG will serve as a motivation for the Bafana Bafana international as he embarks on his debut season in Europe.
