Libyan powerhouse Al Ahly Benghazi have officially completed the marquee signing of former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Glody Lilepo ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The Congolese international caught the attention of Benghazi decision-makers following a series of standout performances that established him as one of the premier attackers in the SA elite league at Amakhosi.
Lilepo originally arrived at Naturena during the January 2025 transfer window to play under then-head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The explosive winger made an immediate impact for Amakhosi through his consistent goal contributions, rapid pace, and sharp dribbling.
His defining moment in South Africa came during Chiefs’ historic 2025 Nedbank Cup triumph, where he played a pivotal role in defeating arch-rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium—finally ending the Glamour Boys’ decade-long trophy drought.
Lilepo made 56 appearances across all competitions at Chiefs, scoring 15 goals and chipping in with five assists.

Speculation around the 29-year-old’s future mounted during the current transfer window after he was left out of Kaizer Chiefs’ pre-season preparations, signalling an imminent exit from Naturena.
Head coach Fernando da Cruz recently confirmed the lingering transfer talks, revealing that the DR Congo international was exploring options abroad. “Regarding Lilepo, he has other opportunities elsewhere, and management is open to discussions,” Da Cruz stated to the media.
FARPost initially broke the news of his impending departure, reporting that Amakhosi had granted the winger permission to travel to North Africa to finalise terms ahead of his official unveiling by the Libyan heavyweights.
Following his official unveiling by Al Ahly Benghazi, Lilepo took to Instagram to send an emotional farewell to the Chiefs faithful, expressing his gratitude and hope for the club’s continued success.

“It is with emotion that my journey with you comes to an end. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at Kaizer Chiefs,” Lilepo said on Monday.
“To the management—Dr. Kaizer Motaung, Kaizer Motaung Jr., Bobby Motaung, the entire leadership team, the coaching staff, and everyone working behind the scenes—thank you for your support and for giving me the opportunity to wear this iconic badge. It has been an honour.
“To my teammates, thank you for every moment we shared. It has been a privilege to fight with you. Together, we were able to bring a trophy back to this great club after ten years and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup in two consecutive seasons. I will always cherish the memories we created together. I know this club deserves more, and I have no doubt that greater days lie ahead.
“To the supporters, thank you for your passion, support, positivity, and kindness. Your love for this club is truly special. I hope I was able to bring you some moments of joy, even though we also experienced some difficult times together.
