Stellenbosch FC striker Wonderboy Makhubu has joined newly promoted Betway Premiership side Kruger United after the two clubs agreed on a season-long loan deal, FARPost has established.
The agreement includes an option to buy at the end of the 2026/27 campaign, with Makhubu expected to travel to Mbombela on Friday to finalise the move after both clubs reached an agreement and personal terms were settled.
Kruger United have identified the former Magesi FC frontman as one of their key attacking reinforcements ahead of their maiden campaign in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The 29-year-old leaves Stellenbosch just seven months after joining the Cape Winelands club from Sekhukhune United in January. His departure comes after the club signed Ashley Du Preez from Kaizer Chiefs. Du Preez, who returns to his boyhood club, and Given Msimango were part of a deal that saw Langelihle Phili move to Amakhosi. Makhubu arrived at Stellies on a two-and-a-half-year contract with an extension option built into the agreement.

Besides the arrival of Du Preez, indications are that Stellies are getting another striker before the transfer window closes. Makhubu’s move to the Winelands initially appeared to be heading in the right direction after head coach Gavin Hunt publicly praised his contribution following Stellenbosch’s 2-1 Nedbank Cup victory over Kaizer Chiefs in February.
The veteran coach, Hunt, who is in his 29th season in the PSL, said Makhubu was an “outstanding, proper number nine footballer”.
Despite the encouraging start, Makhubu found regular opportunities limited. He made 13 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
A move to Kruger United now offers the striker regular game time as the Mpumalanga-based outfit strengthens its squad for life in the second tier. Meanwhile, striker Thabang Sibanyoni has left Kruger after the club decided not to offer him a permanent contract.
