Mamelodi Sundowns scout Carlos Mtshamba has attracted interest from Betway Premiership clubs less than a year after joining the Brazilians.
FARPost has established that Chippa United are keen to bring the highly rated youth developer into their structure after previously working with him in their DStv Diski Challenge setup.
Marumo Gallants have also emerged as strong contenders for his signature as they continue strengthening their football operations under newly appointed sporting director Paul Matthews.
Gallants are understood to be placing renewed emphasis on youth development as part of a broader restructuring of the club’s football department, with Mtshamba viewed as a coach capable of building a sustainable talent pipeline.
A move to Gallants would also see Mtshamba return to his home province, with the club having relocated to North West.
MTSHAMBA CREDITED FOR DEVELOPING TETO AND NOQOBO
The respected talent developer joined Sundowns in November last year after being appointed as a scout tasked with identifying players from Under-13 level through to the DStv Diski Challenge, with a particular focus on the Eastern Cape.
His arrival formed part of Sundowns’ drive to strengthen their scouting network in the province, where he worked alongside Bianca Mohlabane in expanding the club’s talent identification programme. Before joining Sundowns, Mtshamba spent time at Chippa after making his name with Carlos Academy in East London, where he scouted and developed several promising players.
Among his most notable success stories is Sundowns winger Aphelele Teto, who was previously signed by Scottish club Livingston FC after emerging through the pathway created by Mtshamba.
Mtshamba also has established ties with Livingston, with his Carlos Academy regularly facilitating player exchanges and opportunities between the East London-based academy and the Scottish club.
Teto’s move to Livingston provided a major international opportunity, although the talented winger was unable to play competitively in Europe after running into visa issues.
Mtshamba also played a key role in the development of Lunje Noqobo, who represented South Africa at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. Noqobo is now at Durban City FC, where he is pushing for a breakthrough into the club’s first team.
