Mamelodi Sundowns star Khuliso Mudau has joined the club’s growing injury list after limping off during their Betway Premiership victory over Marumo Gallants at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday night.
The Bafana Bafana right-back was forced off in the 38th minute of the 2-0 win and replaced by Zuko Mdunyelwa, casting a shadow over a performance that saw the Brazilians claim their first clean sheet of the season.
With several key players already sidelined, Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso faces an escalating injury crisis as the Chloorkop side juggles a congested domestic and continental schedule. Although Mudau’s return timeline remains unknown, he joins players such as Teboho Mokoena, Khulumani Ndamane, and Nuno Santos in the medical room.
Mudau has so far featured in all four matches across all competitions for Sundowns in the 2026/27 season, proving his significance in Cardoso’s side.
The Brazilians hosted Gallants at home, looking to return to winning ways after playing to a 1-1 draw against rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the league this past weekend.
Masandawana kicked off the match against Gallants in higher gear, searching for an early goal to claim a victory in their first home game of the season in the league.
MALIBONGWE KHOZA AND CASSIUS MAILULA ON TARGET FOR SUNDOWNS
Sundowns found the back of the net in the 21st minute after Malibongwe Khoza pounced on a loose ball in the box to give the hosts a 1-0 lead going into the half-time break.
Sundowns doubled their lead in the second half through a clean strike from Cassius Mailula, who rejoined the club for a second stint during the recent transfer window. The goal marked his third in four matches across all competitions as he continues his rich vein of form in Sundowns colours.
After taking a comfortable 2-0 lead, Sundowns did enough to control the game by retaining possession, making it difficult for Gallants to create scoring chances.
As a result, the reigning African champions climbed to third on the log with seven points—level with second-placed Kaizer Chiefs and leaders Orlando Pirates, who both hold a superior goal difference.
