Marumo Gallants have completed the signing of Thabiso Kutumela, with the experienced forward putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with an option to extend. FARPost understands Kutumela has signed the deal and is expected to begin training with his new teammates later this week as Phuti Mohafe continues to strengthen his squad.
Gallants have not had the best start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season. They played a goalless draw against Kruger United in their opening match before losing 3-1 to Stellenbosch FC in their second game. Their next assignment is against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night.
Kutumela’s move comes after his exit from AmaZulu at the end of the 2025/26 season. The 33-year-old made 17 appearances across all competitions for Usuthu, including 15 league matches, and found the back of the net twice and provided one assist.
He becomes the North West club’s 14th signing following the arrivals of Emile Lako, Thokozani Lukhele, Prince Manku, Mlungisi Sikakane, Patrick Motsoeneng, Kgomotso Marebane, Thato Mohlomme, Samkele Sihlali, Thabang Sesinyi, Thabiso Mkwanazi, Onalenna Lepelesana, Lebogang Button and Thulani Zandamela. He is expected to compete with Botswana international Sesinyi for that centre-forward position.
KUTUMELA BRINGS EXPERIENCE TO MARUMO GALLANTS
Kutumela now joins Gallants with a wealth of experience at the highest level of South African football, having previously played for Orlando Pirates, Maritzburg United and Mamelodi Sundowns. His spell at Sundowns remains one of the notable chapters of his career. The Limpopo-born forward joined the reigning champions from Maritzburg United after a standout campaign in which he scored 12 goals in 26 league starts.
His performances earned him recognition from Bafana Bafana, with his work rate, goals and ability to create opportunities helping him earn a national team call-up. He has since remained an experienced figure in the domestic game and last year represented Bafana at the CHAN in Uganda.
‘Kutu’ will now bring that experience to a Gallants side that has undergone significant changes ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The club also changed its technical structure, appointing Mohafe as head coach, with Musa Bilankulu and Mathome Mathiane joining his technical team.
Paul Matthews has stepped in as sporting director as Gallants look to build a squad capable of improving on last season’s showing. They finished 14th last season and have tasked Mohafe with guiding them to a better finish this season.
