Orbit College FC coach Pogiso Makhoye has explained why the club has had to let go of more than 25 players as they begin life in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
The North West side were relegated from the Betway Premiership after finishing at the bottom of the log. They only spent one season in the top flight before their demotion back to the second-tier league.
The club is set to start their Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign away to Leicesterford City FC on Saturday, 22 August. They start the season without some of the experienced players who were signed last season.
This includes former Orlando Pirates midfielder Ben Motshwari, Lesedi Kapinga, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, who has since announced his retirement from football, as well as Pogiso Mahlangu, among others.

Speaking ahead of their first match of the season, Makhoye says the club has decided to rebuild and, in the process, parted with 25 players.
“We have rebuilt the team because from the team we had last season, we have released 25 players,” Makhoye told FARPost.
“So if you release 25 players, it means you are rebuilding. So we have to rebuild, but we have kept most of the players that were playing in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] last season.
“We also kept most of the players that played the last six games. But we will also look in the transfer market to bolster the squad,” he added.
“We took the time to reflect and reassess the squad. The final six Betway Premiership matches served as preparation for the Motsepe Foundation Championship, allowing us to evaluate the players who featured. That group now forms the core of our team moving forward.”
