Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates midfielder Lesedi Kapinga’s search for a new club looks set to continue after his brief trial with Kruger United failed to lead to a move, FARPost has learnt.
The 31-year-old was spotted training with the Betway Premiership newcomers this week as he weighed up his options following his departure from Orbit College FC.
FARPost understands the Mpumalanga side has indicated that Kapinga’s profile doesn’t fit their current squad, making a deal unlikely. The former Black Leopards star joined Orbit midway through last season after a difficult spell at Sekhukhune United, where he made just 13 appearances during a 16-month stay.
The move to Orbit was intended to give Kapinga an opportunity to revive his career and secure more regular football. However, his stint with the North West club was also short-lived.
Kapinga made only four appearances for Orbit, scoring once, before being among more than 25 players released as the club began rebuilding following their relegation from the Betway Premiership.

Orbit coach Pogiso Makhoye recently explained the scale of the squad overhaul. “We have rebuilt the team because from the team we had last season, we have released 25 players,” Makhoye told FARPost. “So, if you release 25 players, it means you are rebuilding.”
Kapinga’s trial at Kruger United offered another opportunity to find a way back into the top flight, but the club’s assessment is unlikely to result in a contract.
His career, which started off at Leopards, has previously taken him to Sundowns, Pirates, and Sekhukhune, but he has struggled for consistency and regular game time in recent seasons.
With the Kruger United route now appearing to have closed, Kapinga remains a free agent and will continue to look for a club where he can get regular football and revive his career ahead of the new season.
