Stellenbosch FC have officially confirmed a loan deal for striker Wonderboy Makhubu, who joins newly-promoted Betway Premiership side Kruger United for the 2026/27 season.
Makhubu sealed the move to the Village Boys after struggling for regular game time in the second round of the previous campaign under Stellenbosch head coach Gavin Hunt.
The talented striker leaves Stellenbosch having been in the books of the Winelands-based side since January 2026. Makhubu joined Stellies from Sekhukhune United; however, the move to the Western Cape didn’t yield positive results.
In his seven months with Stellenbosch, Makhubu made only 13 appearances and scored one goal, while also struggling with injuries. And with his situation at Stellenbosch worsening after the arrival of Ashley Du Preez and veteran striker Bradley Grobler, the 29-year-old forward is embarking on a new chapter with the new Betway Premiership side – Kruger.

Makhubu will be aiming for a strong showing at Kruger United to rediscover his goal-scoring touch. On Wednesday morning, Stellenbosch confirmed the attacker’s departure on a season-long loan, which includes an option to make the move permanent at the end of the campaign.
“Stellenbosch FC can confirm that Wonderboy Makhubu has completed a season-long loan to Kruger United ahead of the 2026-27 campaign,” the club said on their website.
“In terms of the loan agreement, newly promoted Kruger United retain the option to purchase Makhubu’s services on a permanent basis at the end of the season. The 29-year-old was named in United’s matchday squad for the first time on Tuesday and made his debut during their 2-0 Betway Premiership defeat to Durban City.
“He previously joined Stellenbosch in January and made 13 appearances across all competitions, scoring his solitary goal during a 1-1 league draw against TS Galaxy in March.
“The loan presents Wonderboy with an opportunity for regular first-team football, and the club looks forward to seeing his continued growth over the course of the season.”
