Sekhukhune United have parted ways with head coach Cedric Kaze just four matches into the new Betway Premiership campaign, FARPost can confirm.
The two parties have agreed to part ways, and the club is expected to make an official announcement soon.
Reports on Monday were that the club was on the verge of sacking the 46-year-old mentor. At the time, the two parties were negotiating a settlement. This publication has it on good authority that an agreement has now been reached for Kaze’s exit.
The former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach’s departure follows a difficult run of three consecutive defeats. Babina Noko lost both legs of their MTN8 semi-final against Orlando Pirates, with another setback in the league in between. However, the recent results are not believed to be the sole reason behind the decision to end the working relationship.
KAZE’S TENURE ENDS AFTER FOUR LEAGUE OUTINGS
Kaze joined Babina Noko ahead of the 2026/27 season on a one-year contract, with an option to extend his stay by a further two years. The Burundian coach arrived after serving as a co-coach at Chiefs, a role he shared with Khalil Ben Youssef, now at Durban City FC. The two had previously worked under Nasreddine Nabi as assistant coaches.
Sekhukhune began the league campaign positively, winning their opening two matches of the season. They beat Durban City FC 1-0 in their season opener, before progressing to the MTN8 semi-final with a 4-3 win over AmaZulu FC.
Kaze suffered his first defeat at the hands of his former club Chiefs before securing his second league win, a 2-0 victory over Polokwane City. It means his tenure has now come to an abrupt end after only four league outings.
Assistant coaches Paulus Masehe and Papi Zothwane are among the candidates under consideration to take charge on an interim basis.
Babina Noko returns to action against TS Galaxy at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, with the club expected to provide clarity on the technical team ahead of the fixture.
