Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has given his take on Pitso Mosimane’s return as Bafana Bafana head coach, succeeding Hugo Broos following the Belgian’s successful stint in charge of the national team.
Mosimane has officially taken over the hot seat after he was unveiled to the public on Tuesday morning at the SAFA House. The veteran coach was appointed to replace Broos at Bafana Bafana following the end of the Belgian’s contract.
Broos left Bafana after spending six years in charge of the South African senior men’s national team, having bagged the job back in 2021.
The former Cameroon national team coach had a successful spell with Bafana. He clinched the bronze medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast before making history by guiding the team to the knockout stage in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
After setting high standards for South Africa, Broos left the job in recent months, opening the door for Mosimane to return to Bafana for his second stint, having managed the side between 2010 and 2012.

The return of the former Mamelodi Sundowns tactician has evoked a lot of excitement from football lovers in SA.
Da Cruz has joined the widespread conversation about Mosimane and called for patience with the former Al Ahly man as he starts his tenure.
The Chiefs coach was addressing the media at the Naturena Village. This was ahead of the club’s Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC. The game will be staged at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
“He’s a coach that had a lot of success at club level. He has won a lot of titles,” Da Cruz said. “So he has the qualities to be in this position today.
“It’s good to have a local coach [in the national team]. But it is important that we give him time because now he is taking over a heritage from another coach. He will need time to set up his things.”
