Bafana Bafana striker Foster has sealed a loan move to Houston Dynamo FC from Burnley FC, with the MLS outfit’s president of soccer, Pat Onstad, explaining why the player fits the bill at their club.
The striker, who turned 26 on Thursday, joins Houston Dynamo on a loan deal to June 2027 with the option for a permanent transfer. Having been with Burnley since January 2023, Foster moves following the club’s second time being relegated from the Premier League to the Championship during his time at Turf Moor.
It is not surprising that new Burnley manager Nick Hayen opted to send him out on loan after the former Orlando Pirates star managed just three goals and two assists in 26 league games last season. He also had an assist in one FA Cup appearance last term.
“Lyle Foster has joined MLS side Houston Dynamo on a loan deal until the end of June 2027, with an option to make the transfer permanent. We would like to wish Lyle, who turns 26 today, all the best during his time in the US,” Burnley announced in a statement on Thursday.

The MLS side has also announced Foster’s arrival, and Onstad has taken time to explain the qualities that the ex-AS Monaco player possesses.
“Lyle presents another powerful, mobile forward to our attacking group. He threatens the space behind the back line, links play well and brings the work rate and intensity that we demand without the ball,” said Onstad.
“Lyle’s experience in the Premier League and on the international stage will strengthen our group, and we are excited to welcome him to Houston as we prepare for a strong finish to the season.”
Foster would be pushing to rejuvenate himself at Houston Dynamo and keep his national team spot. With Pitso Mosimane now in charge of Bafana Bafana, the striker will have to convince the experienced coach that he deserves to be in his team.
Houston Dynamo are currently second in the MLS Western Conference with 39 points after 22 matches, and they have four points fewer than leaders Vancouver Whitecaps, who have played a game fewer.
