Sekhukhune United began the post-Cedric Kaze era with a 0-0 draw against TS Galaxy in a Betway Premiership match at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday afternoon.
After sacking Kaze earlier in the week, it was a difficult start to Papi Zothwane’s tenure as Babina Noko recorded their fourth winless outing in all competitions. In their last four games, Sekhukhune have managed a defeat and a draw in the league, as well as two MTN8 losses.
Zothwane’s side remains sixth on the table with seven points from five games, while TS Galaxy have a point less at ninth position after the same number of matches.
“Sekhukhune is a top five team, so you want to keep the consistency of the past five years. For me that’s what I want to achieve. I think with the support we are getting and the players I have, we can achieve that,” Zothwane told SuperSport TV after the match.
At Buffalo City Stadium on the same day, it was another goalless affair between hosts Chippa United and Milford FC. The Chilli Boys remain winless after five games with four draws and a defeat, leaving them 12 points on the table.
The point gained from this encounter saw Milford remain fifth. The KwaZulu-Natal side has two wins.
NGWENYA STRIKES AGAIN AS AMAZULU DISLODGE KAIZER CHIEFS
Meanwhile, at Princess Magogo Stadium on Friday, AmaZulu FC displaced Kaizer Chiefs from third position after a 2-1 victory over Richards Bay FC. Amakhosi are now fourth, two points behind Usuthu.
Zimbabwe international Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya continued his terrific form with a goal in this KwaZulu-Natal Derby. Ngwenya struck his eighth goal in six games across all competitions.
It was his sixth goal in five Betway Premiership games as he promises to carve himself into one of the top performers in this league by the end of this season. The former FC Platinum striker found the back of the net seven minutes into the second half before Moses Mthembu equalised for Richards Bay FC with 10 minutes to go.
But Nkosikhona Radebe ensured maximum points for Usuthu with an 82nd-minute goal. However, Chiefs have a chance to reclaim third spot if they beat Silwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
Again on Friday, Marumo Gallants FC picked up their second point of the season by drawing 2-2 with Polokwane City FC at Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Tidimalo Molokwane got the evening rolling with a goal as early as three minutes into the match.
But winger Msindisi Ndlovu hit back for Bahlabane ba Ntwa in the 17th minute, before Bonginkosi Dlamini restored Rise and Shine’s lead in the 25th minute. An own goal by Lebohang Nkaki a minute before halftime saw the two sides settle for a 2-2 draw.
After no goals were witnessed in the second half, Gallants remain second from the bottom with just a point better than basement side Kruger United. Polokwane City are 10th with six points from five matches.
