Morena Ramoreboli has stepped down as head coach of the Botswana national team after being appointed as assistant coach to newly named Bafana Bafana boss Pitso Mosimane.
Ramoreboli has stepped down from his role with the Botswana Football Association to join Bafana Bafana’s new-look technical team under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Mosimane.
The former Jwaneng Galaxy tactician becomes the first assistant coach to join Mosimane’s backroom staff, replacing Helman Mkhalele, who was not retained following Hugo Broos’ departure.
Mkhelele served as assistant coach to Hugo Broos during the Belgian’s five-year stint with the 1996 AFCON champions. The ex-Orlando Pirates star sat on the bench when Bafana clinched a bronze medal at the 2023 Nations Cup before the national team made history by reaching the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup at the 2026 showpiece in North America.
With the South African Football Association [SAFA] looking to take Bafana a step further, they appointed Mosimane to replace Broos, who stepped down from the hot seat after the expiry of his contract.
Mosimane will have Ramoreboli as his assistant, who helped Botswana qualify for the previous AFCON in Morocco, where he ended the Zebras’ 12-year absence from the tournament.

SAFA announced Ramoreboli’s appointment on Tuesday as Bafana Bafana prepare for the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign, kicking off later this month.
SAFA president Danny Jordaan welcomed Ramoreboli to Bafana, saying the coach has deep knowledge of South African football.
“We are happy to welcome Morena Ramoreboli back into the Bafana Bafana environment. He has earned this opportunity through his achievements and his consistent growth as a coach over many years,” said Jordaan.
“Morena knows South African football, understands African football and has demonstrated that he can build competitive teams, develop players and deliver results in challenging circumstances. His experience in Botswana has added another important dimension to his coaching career.
“We believe his qualities will complement those of coach Pitso Mosimane and strengthen the Bafana Bafana technical team as we begin the journey towards the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.”
