Milford FC continued their dream start to life in the big league with the biggest scoreline of the weekend, an emphatic 5-1 thrashing of 10-man Richards Bay FC, while Kruger United registered their first league win and Siwelele FC shared the spoils with Golden Arrows.
At Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, Milford FC put on a dominant display to thrash 10-man Richards Bay 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. The Betway Premiership newbies moved up to fifth on the log with 11 points from seven matches, while the Natal Rich Boyz remain winless in 14th with just three points from six outings.
The turning point came in the 28th minute when Richards Bay’s Lindokuhle Zikhali gave away possession, pulled back Siphosethu Ndlabi in the box and was shown a straight red card.
Ndlabi converted the penalty before Mvelo Zikakayo doubled the lead just before halftime and made it 3-0 in the 54th minute from Ndlabi’s assist.
Richards Bay pulled one back through Mehluleli Ndelu in the 77th minute, but substitutes Phakamani Jwara and Jabulile Gxakoshe sealed a famous win for the hosts.
SIWELELE FC AND ARROWS SHARE SPOILS
At Free State Stadium, Siwelele FC and Golden Arrows played to a hard-fought 1-1 draw. After a cagey first half with few shots on target, Arrows took the lead four minutes after the restart when Ronaldo Van Neel’s cross found Philani Khumalo, who volleyed home.
Siwelele responded after the hour mark through Christian Saile, who acrobatically volleyed in after a poor touch from Osborn Maluleke.
The hosts thought they had won it in the 67th minute when Thabiso Sesane headed in, but the goal was ruled out for a foul. Both sides had chances to win it late, but neither could find a winner.
The draw leaves Siwelele 15th with three points from seven matches, while Arrows sit seventh with seven points from six games.
KRUGER UNITED REGISTER FIRST WIN IN BETWAY PREMIERSHIP
Meanwhile, at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, the first-ever top-flight Mpumalanga Derby between TS Galaxy and Kruger United was cagey, with the two sides inseparable at halftime.
The Rockets were reduced to 10 men when Veluyeke Zulu was red-carded for pulling down a Kruger United forward.
Kruger grew in confidence from then on and broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute through Khetukuthula Ndlovu to register their first win of the season. The result, their first win, sees them move up to 13th position with four points.
