Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed the final addition to his technical team after bringing Marcus Mashilo on board as goalkeeper coach.
Mashilo, who recently joined Marumo Gallants, will work with the national team during camps while remaining contracted to the Betway Premiership club.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows goalkeeper coach reported for duty as Bafana assembled ahead of their 2027 AFCON qualifiers against Guinea and Eritrea.
Mosimane confirmed Mashilo’s arrival before the team held its first training session at the University of Johannesburg in Auckland Park on Monday afternoon.

“The technical is complete now. We’ve got Marcus Mashilo to help us as a goalkeeper coach. Marcus has experience. Marcus worked with me at Sundowns. Marcus worked with coach Manqoba [Mngqithi] at Sundowns. He worked with coach Rulani [Mokwena]. He even went to work with coach Manqoba at Golden Arrows [he is] at Marumo Gallants,” Mosimane told the media.
Mashilo previously deputised veteran goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson at Sundowns, coaching the likes of Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene.
Mosimane believes his experience makes him a valuable addition to the national team. “He has learnt a lot. He was an assistant [goalkeeper coach] to Wendell [Robinson], so Marcus has been around. Maybe he does not have that big name, but Marcus has been around. He has trained Kennedy [Mweene]; he has trained Denis [Onyango]. He has achieved a lot at Sundowns and contributed to a lot of trophies that have been won. Good technical team, local also. For me, it’s important to support our local coaches and give them experience of working with Bafana. It’s good to have a local bench.”

Mashilo is part of a technical team that includes assistant coach Morena Ramoreboli, analyst Musi Matlaba and conditioning coach Kabelo Rangoaga.
Ramoreboli joined the national team after leaving his position as Botswana head coach, while Matlaba and Rangoaga have worked with Mosimane for several years.
The locally based players arrived in camp without any issues, while overseas-based trio Olwethu Makhanya, Relebohile Mofokeng and Puso Dithejane were expected to link up with the squad on Monday evening.
Bafana will host Guinea at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday before travelling to Egypt to face Eritrea four days later. Mosimane’s charges will conclude the international window with a friendly in Egypt on 4 October.
