Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed another injury blow in the squad as Nkosinathi Sibisi is set to miss the clash against Guinea.
Mosimane and his charges will face Guinea in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon, which will mark a new era under the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor.
The veteran coach took over the coaching job a few weeks ago, taking the hot seat from Hugo Broos, who has been with the team since 2021.
Mosimane has a big task of qualifying Bafana to the next AFCON in East Africa, having qualified for the past two editions in Ivory Coast and Morocco.
South will lock horns with Guinea in their first match of the AFCON qualifiers in Group D. After reporting to camp earlier this week, Bafana suffered a blow after Kaizer Chiefs star Lebohang Maboe withdrew from the squad due to an injury.
NOSINATHI SIBISI GETS A KNOCK AT TRAINING
Maboe was subsequently replaced by Orlando Pirates attacker Tshepang Moremi. With only 24 hours left before the match against Guinea, Mosimane has revealed that Sibisi will not make the matchday squad due to an injury.
The Orlando Pirates captain is a big blow, having formed part of the team in the previous AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
“I think Ronza has spoken already that the camp has been good from day one. There is no destruction around the team,” Mosimane said at Orlando Amstel Arena on Friday afternoon.
“Everyone has been here and focused, apart from a setback with Sibisi because he’s got an injury and he hasn’t been training for the last two days. He got a knock at training, so we are monitoring it, and the doctors said he will miss this one [against Guinea], but injuries are part of the professional sport; hence, we select enough numbers”
