SAFA has explained why the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games qualifier between Madagascar and Banyana Banyana on Friday, 9 October 2026, will be played behind closed doors.
No spectators will be permitted entry for the opening fixture at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. The match is scheduled to kick off at 15:00.
The decision to close the match to the public comes following an official request by Madagascar. In this case, Madagascar are designated as the home team for the first-leg tie despite the venue being located on South African soil.
On a positive note, football supporters in the Free State will have an opportunity to watch the Desiree Ellis-led side live during the return fixture.
The return leg will take place at the same venue on Tuesday, 13 October 2026. The kick-off is set for 18:00.
Meanwhile, Banyana have already hit the ground running. South Africa had their first training session on Tuesday morning at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium.
