Siwelele coach issues update on Happy Mashiane’s possible signing

Happy Mashiane at Siwelele FC

Siwelele FC interim coach Godfrey Moseatsa has provided an update regarding the possibility of signing Happy Mashiane for the ongoing 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

The talented left-back is currently a free agent after parting ways with his boyhood club, Kaizer Chiefs, during the off-season. Chiefs and Mashiane mutually agreed to terminate their association after the defender struggled for regular game time over the past few seasons.

Before leaving Naturena, Mashiane spent seven seasons with the club after earning promotion from the DStv Diski Challenge side to the senior team in 2019. He signed his first professional contract under then-head coach Ernst Middendorp, though he ultimately found it difficult to cement a permanent place in the Amakhosi starting line-up.

Mashiane spent the previous campaign on loan with Siwelele FC, fighting for minutes while Neo Rapoo cemented his place as the undisputed first-choice left-back. Following Rapoo’s departure to Orlando Pirates in the recent transfer window, the Bloemfontein-based side are actively looking to reinforce their left wing-back position.

Mashiane has been training with the club over the past few weeks in a bid to secure a permanent contract and revive his career. Coach Godfrey Moseatsa has hinted that a deal could materialise, emphasising the player’s experience and potential value to the squad.

“Yeah, he started training with us during the FIFA break, and he has been training very well,” Moseatsa said at the 2026 Carling Knockout Cup draw in Fourways on Wednesday night.

“There’s just certain things that need to be sorted out administratively, and then we will take it from there, but we cannot deny the fact that he’s a very good player who’s got PSL experience.

“He played for Kaizer Chiefs while he was still young. So he has a lot to offer, but it also lies with what happens behind the scenes with management and his agent sorting out any other outstanding issues.”

During his spell with the Glamour Boys, the 29-year-old made 69 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

Meanwhile, Mashiane was also training with Stellenbosch FC, aiming to impress head coach Gavin Hunt and sign a deal, but the Winelands-based side decided against offering the former South African youth international a contract.
