Former Mamelodi Sundowns analyst Goolam Valodia has become the latest technical team member to leave Durban City FC. His exit comes just a month after head coach Khalil Ben Youssef left the club.
FARPost has learnt that Valodia’s stint with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit has come to an end, just months after he joined the club following a lengthy spell at Chloorkop. His departure follows City’s recent coaching change, with Eric Tinkler replacing Ben Youssef.
Valodia arrived at the 2026 Nedbank Cup champions after a 15-year stint at Sundowns. The veteran performance and tactical analyst worked behind the scenes at the club during one of its most successful periods.
Valodia contributed to a trophy-laden era that included domestic league titles, the 2016 CAF Champions League, and the CAF Super Cup. However, his stay at City has proved considerably shorter, as the experienced analyst has moved on while the club begins its next chapter under Tinkler.
VALODIA’S DURBAN CITY SPELL COMES TO AN END

Valodia joined City after completing his UEFA B Licence through the Scottish Football Association. At the time of his arrival, he was understood to be earmarked for a head of performance position, with additional responsibilities as a second assistant coach.
His move followed his departure from Sundowns in November 2025, after which he took the opportunity to further his coaching qualifications. Part of his role at Masandawana involved opposition analysis, although he also travelled ahead of the team to assess training venues and accommodation for continental assignments. That experience was expected to be useful to City as it navigates continental football.
The Durban outfit plays the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round away in Mauritius on Sunday. They travel to Port Louis with a 3-1 lead ahead of Sunday’s clash at the Complexe Sportif de Côte d’Or in Saint-Pierre.
His UEFA B qualification added a coaching dimension to his extensive analytical background, opening the door to a more hands-on role within a technical team. However, his City chapter has now closed after another change in the club’s coaching leadership. The circumstances surrounding his departure remain unclear.
Valodia also served as opposition analyst for Bafana Bafana during their October 2027 AFCON fixtures. Working with Musi Matlaba and Tshepo Mahao, they helped the national team win all three games. Bafana beat Guinea 2-1 before trouncing Eritrea 5-0. They concluded the three-match window with a 1-0 win over Egypt in an international friendly.
South Africa’s senior men’s head coach, Pitso Mosimane, is expected to recall him for next month’s camp. Mosimane will guide his charges in two back-to-back qualifiers against Benni McCarthy’s Kenya on 13 and 17 November 2026.
