Al Ahly legend turns heat on Percy Tau

Having ensured the exit of coach Pitso Mosimane from Al Ahly, it seems the Egyptian team’s legends have now switched focus on his compatriot Percy Tau, calling for his departure.

In the latest development, Al Ahly former club captain Shady Mohamed has urged management to sell Tau and his Mozambican counterpart Luis Miquissone.

Mohamed, according to Kingfut website, said the two are substandard players. Even youthful Ziad Tarek is far much better than the Southern African duo, he said.

“Ziad Tarek is better than both Percy Tau and Luis Miquissone. I believe he should become a starter for the first team,” Shady is quoted saying.

Mohamed rated highly the 21-year-old Tarek as he has made 14 appearances for the Reds this campaign, mostly off the bench, and has scored twice and provided two assists.

“Tau and Miquissone should be sold. Al Ahly would financially benefit from selling them both. Overall, Al Ahly youngsters had a good game against Ittihad, but it should only be a start. They still have a long way to go,” he added.

The Al Ahly legend said this while analysing the performance on Tarek, who scored two goals on Sunday when the team ended a two-game winless run to beat Ittihad 3-0 in an Egyptian league encounter.

The legends were also overly critical of Mosimane until he threw in the towel in June, citing immense pressure, and he was replaced by Portuguese Ricardo Soares.

Al Ahly management over the weekend accused some sections of mounting a media campaign that forced the former Bafana Bafana coach to step down despite his obvious impressive exploits.

Ironically, it was Mosimane who promoted Tarek, who went on to sign his former Mamelodi Sundowns players Tau and Miquissone.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion forward has been a subject of a transfer away from Ahly. Recent reports suggested that he had been transfer-listed alongside the former Simba star Miquissone.
