Green Buffaloes make roaring start in CAF Women’s CL qualifier
Green Buffaloes made a roaring start in their 2022 COSAFA zone CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament campaign following an emphatic 4-0 Group B victory over Eswatini club Young Buffaloes at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Durban.
All four goals came from established Zambia national team stars in a match the Zambian champions took a two -nil half-time lead against the
tournament debutants.
Midfielder Ireen Lunga scored a brace with her first goal coming in the 33rd minute before Helen Chanda added the second goal in the 42nd minute.
Defender Anita Mulenga made it three-nil seven minutes after the hour
mark while Lungu completed her brace in the 85th minute.
Buffaloes need one more win in their final Group B match on August 9 over Comoros champions Olympique de Moroni on August 9 to secure their place in the final of the six-team COSAFA zone CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier that South Africa is hosting from August 7-13 in Durban.
Defending African champions Mamelodi Sundowns are in Group A where they have been drawn against Costa Do Sol of Mozambique and Botswana’s Double Action.
Sundowns made an emphatic start in their quest for qualification and defend their title in Morocco at the end of the year with an 8-1 victory over Costa Do Sol in the lunchtime kickoff at the same venue.
