Injured Thembi Kgatlana vows to bounce back strong
Banyana Banyana forward Thembi Kgatlana has vowed to bounce back strong from the injury she suffered on Sunday at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
“Injuries are a part of sports. If we can allow to control our emotions of joy, peace and jubilation so can we control our emotions through disappointments, setbacks and challenges. Thank you for all your heartfelt messages. I WILL BE BACK!,” she tweeted via her handle @Kgatlanathe1st.
Reacting to the striker’s injury, Banyana Banyana defender Janine van Wyk tweeted: “Wishing you a speedy recovery Thembinho. You will be sorely missed but we will continue to soldier on and do our best to complete our mission here Stay strong.”
The forward has been ruled out of the rest of the WAFCON tournament after rupturing her left Achilles tendon in the Group C match against Botswana.
The NWSL club Racing Louisville FC’s new signing was stretchered off in the 69th minute of the match which Banyana Banyana won 1-0.
Kgatlana will return to South Africa for an operation, just when Banyana Banyana face Tunisia on Thursday in the quarterfinal game at the Stade Prince Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat.
