Namibia coach says Shalulile’s decision-making ‘second to none’
Namibia interim coach Bobby Samaria has said Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile’s decision-making and movement in the attacking third is “second to none.”
Samaria said this in a post-match interview after Shalulile scored for Namibia in the 1-1 draw with Burundi in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier played in South Africa on Saturday afternoon.
“Peter is in hot form; his decision making and movement in the box is second to none,” Samaria said.
FARPost further asked Samaria whether Shalulile was capable of breaking the scoring record for Namibia after he joined the country’s all-time leading scorer Rudolf Bester on 13 goals on Saturday.
However, the coach said Shalulile was not obsessed with breaking records but with winning as a team. “I think it is doable,” he added. “But with Peter, it is not about breaking records but the overall objective of the team.”
Samaria added that the striker was among the best exports from Namibia alongside former Platinum Stars forward Henrico Botes.
“I think he ranks among the very best from Namibia but making comparisons is not for me because we also had Henrico Botes [at Platinum Stars], who did exceptionally well,” he said.
The Sundowns man top-scored with 27 goals in 40 games in the just-ended season. The Tshwane giants swept all silverware before them, namely the DStv Premiership, Nedbank Cup and Telkom Knockout.
