Rulani Mokwena says Sundowns eyeing partnership with Ugandan side

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has hinted on the possibility of the DStv Premiership invincible champions entering into a sister relationship with Ugandan side KCCA FC.

He said in this an interview with the media in Uganda where he is drilling KCCA’s players and coaches as part of knowledge exchange visit.

“We are in Uganda because we are here to try and establish very good relations. KCCA is close to our hearts as Mamelodi Sundowns but also Uganda as a nation from a political sense in relation to the two countries, there is a strong political relevance between Uganda and South Africa,” he said.

“We are coming to a country that we feel that have got very good space, very good energy and also because one of the best players to ever play for Sundowns, Denis Onyango is a captain of our team and when the invitation came from the team to him and he forwared it to us, we felt honoured.”

The former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United mentor has since hit the ground running taking KCCA players through the paces.

The youthful coach is overheard in one of the video clips drilling the Ugandan team’s players on how to receive the ball, turn and run in one movement.

“Your body position is like this, open and it is back foot because you guys have speed and you are going, you guys are quick and you can dribble,” Mokwena said.

The coach arrived in Uganda on Friday at the invitation of KCCA is in line with their Five Years Strategic Plan under the Key Result area 5 which is Strategic Partnerships and Alliances.

KCCA met Sundowns in the first round of the 2017 CAF Champions League when Mokwena served as Pitso Mosimane’s righthand man.

Mokwena is part of the Sundowns’ successful coaching panel that has won five DStv Premiership titles uninterrupted.
