Why Cosafa’s leading scorer may miss potential move

Eswatini striker Sabelo Ndzinisa has set the 2022 COSAFA Cup alight in KwaZulu-Natal and is currently the leading top goal scorer.

Ndzinisa has netted three goals for ‘Sihlangu Semnikati’ who have now progressed to the competition’s quarterfinal stage. They will face guests Senegal on Wednesday, 13 July.

But despite his performance, the 30-year-old is still not eligible to play in any of the South African Football leagues, under the jurisdiction of the South African Football Association (SAFA).

He was banned on 30 August 2020 after it was discovered that he had signed two professional contracts with TS Sporting and Mbombela United.

The former Mbabane Swallows player had signed a contract with Sporting before he signed with Mbombela who were docked 23 points and subsequently relegated to the ABC Motsepe League at the time.

Ndzinisa is currently playing his football at Mbabane Highlanders. He was the second-highest top goal scorer during the past eSwatini Premier League season with 23 goals.

As of 1 September 2022, Ndzinisa will now be eligible to play football in South Africa as his ban would have lapsed.
