Alexandre Lacazette agrees to return to Lyon

Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to return to Lyon this summer on a free transfer after leaving Arsenal.

The striker’s contract at Arsenal expires on June 30. He has not agreed on a new deal there and is now understood to be on the cusp of returning to his former side.

Lacazette left Lyon for Arsenal in the summer of 2017 in a move worth £46.5 million. He scored 71 goals in 206 games for the north London side.

Lacazette also won the FA Cup during his time at the Emirates. The 31-year-old also helped Arsenal qualify for European football this season.

They finished fifth in the Premier League to be eligible for next season’s Europa League. In February, Lyon general manager Vincent Ponsot and president Jean-Michel Aulas expressed their desire to bring Lacazette back to the club.

Ponsot said: “He’s a player who interests us for all he has represented here. “We noticed his maturity, and he is someone that the club have stayed in contact with. We will make every possible effort,” added Aulas.
