Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau has officially found a new home, completing a move to Vietnamese V.League 1 champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC ahead of the new season.
The 32-year-old highly rated former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward was unveiled as Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC’s latest signing on Saturday.
Tau had been a free agent since his departure from Qatar SC in the Qatar Stars League at the end of the previous season. While he had been linked with various clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, his reported salary demands of R450,000 made a return to the Betway Premiership unlikely, as no formal offers were made.
Hoping to reignite his career and secure more playing time ahead of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco later this year, Tau’s move makes him the second South African to join the Vietnamese V.League 1 in recent times.

The club that was formed 60 years ago is the same team that recently announced the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom.
The club has won the Vietnamese V.League 1 three times, including during the past season and were runners-up twice. They also won the Vietnamese Cup in 2007.
They have qualified for the Asia Champions League. It will also be the third time that the club finds itself participating in Asia’s premier club football competition.

Meanwhile, Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC’s announcement praised the Bafana Bafana star as a seasoned veteran with “magical” dribbling skills, having played for top clubs across Europe and Africa.
“Nam Dinh Green Steel Club would like to introduce the team’s new player – Percy Muzi Tau, a star from the South African national team,” the club announced.
“Percy Tau was born in 1994, mainly plays as a winger, and possesses “magical” dribbling skills. He is an experienced veteran, having played for Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, Club Brugge and Anderlecht in the Belgian National Championship, Al Ahly in the Egyptian National Championship and Qatar SC in the Qatar Championship.
“The player is currently a member of the South African National Team. He has played 52 matches for the national team and scored 16 goals. Thep Xanh Nam Dinh pursues a fiery attacking style of play. And the presence of Percy Tau promises to bring more explosive scorina moments to the team.”
