Banyana book ticket to AWCON 2022 tournament
Banyana Banyana have qualified for the African Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournament set to take place in Morocco later this year after playing to a 1-all draw with Algeria in the second leg of the qualifiers on Wednesday night.
The game took place at Stade Omar Hamadi Stadium, in Algiers.
South Africa sealed the AWCON qualification with a 3-1 win on aggregate.
The North Africans came into this game trailing behind by two goals from the first leg.
The home side broke the deadlock with a goal from Sylia Koui on the brink of half time.
However, Banyana did not relent and later found an equaliser through Linda Motlhalo, who converted from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute of the contest.
This is South Africa’s 12th qualification to the prestigious tournament and kept alive their hopes of a maiden AWCON glory.
