Fans taunt anti-Mosimane brigade after Al Ahly loss
Some fans have taken to social media to taunt Al Ahly legends on whether they would still blame Pitso Mosimane for Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Pyramids FC.
It was the first loss for Mosimane’s successor at Al Ahly, Ricardo Soares, whose charges are in third place with two games in hand, lying nine points behind rivals and leaders Zamalek.
Reacting to the defeat, Njabulo2c tweeted: “Al Ahly legends will blame Pitso for this loss. Whose problem now? New Coach?”
Taking his turn, via @LecbaMo, Peter Lesiba tweeted: “Pitso Mosimane says Hello Al Ahly.”
Tumi echoed similar sentiments: “Where’s the ‘Pitso must go brigade? The washed-up legends too.”
Sir Dupry added fuel to the debate by faulting the Al Ahly legends who criticised Mosimane for every slip-up, saying the team’s problems were bigger than the South African.
“This man knew what he was doing. Your legends decided to put him under immense pressure. I want to see if they did it because he is black. Can the Al Ahly legends use the same energy on Ricardo Soares, who has never won any major trophy in his coaching career,” @Sir_Dupry wrote.
Al Ahly fan Ahmed Said has since slammed the players for lacking pride in their game approach.
In a reaction via the team’s Twitter handle, another fan said: “The team needs to bring in a great coach Or bring back Mosimane.”
Dash Sobie has since lashed at the entire squad describing it as “the worst generation in Al-Ahly.”
Al Ahly were coming from an emphatic 4-0 win over Future FC on Tuesday.
Mosimane resigned last month following months of sustained pressure from some of Al Ahly’s greats despite having won the club two CAF Champions League titles in three attempts.
Soares has since managed two wins, one loss and one draw.
Reacting to Saturday’s loss, Soares said: “I accept the loss but not in this way. I did not like the match because we lost character on the field of play. The players were tired, and the recovery time was not enough. We now realise the difficulty of winning the league title.”
