Axed Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has been spotted at the KZN Premier’s Cup at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
The 32-year-old utility player recently saw his time at Kaizer Chiefs end after six years with the club. Amakhosi embarked on a clear-out after appointing Arthur Zwane as the head coach.
Besides Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Bernard Parker, Lebogang Manyama, Daniel Cardoso, Samir Nurkovic, Dumisani Zuma, Leonardo Castro, Anthony Agay, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Daniel Akpeyi, and Kearyn Baccus all left the club.
FARPost reported recently that Ramahlwe Mphahlele was spotted at SuperSport United, where he had requested to train to keep fit. However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender stopped training with Matsatsantsa as the Tshwane side traveled to Limpopo for their pre-season.
He has since resurfaced at AmaZulu in KwaZulu Natal and looks to be part of the team playing Golden Arrows in the KZN Premier’s Cup at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday.
“He is part of the AmaZulu team, but it’s unclear what the situation is. Maybe they want to assess him because it seems they still want to reinforce at the back,” a FARPost source said.
Usuthu have already signed Gabadinho Mhango, Dumisani Zuma, Augustine Kwem, Veluyeke Zulu, Riaan Hanamub, Rally Bwalya, Ethan Brooks, and Thendo Mukumela.
‘Rama’, whose career took flight at Swallows, would bring leadership and experience to Brandon Truter’s defence ahead of the 2022/23 season. He stands out as one of the most disciplined and exemplary professionals in the local league.
His most successful stint was with Sundowns, where he won two league titles, one Telkom Knockout trophy, and one CAF Champions League under coach Pitso Mosimane.
After that, he joined Chiefs, where he established himself as one of the leaders in the dressing room. He was part of the Amakhosi side that went as far as the CAF Champions League final in 2021.
