Chiefs closing in on TS Galaxy star
Kaizer Chiefs may have missed out on TS Galaxy captain Given Msimango after the lanky defender signed a new contract.
The new deal will keep the former Highlands Park centre-back at the club until 2025.
However, Amakhosi are on the verge of signing another Galaxy star. FARPost can reveal that Chiefs are closing in on striker Wayde Lekay with a deal almost done.
“It looks like they’ll sign him in the next few days. He’s actually in camp with Chiefs as we speak,” a source said.
Lekay has been at Galaxy for two seasons after joining them from first division side Steenberg United.
The 25-year-old’s scoring record at the Mpumalanga side has been underwhelming. According to transfermkt, in 45 games in all competitions, he has only managed eight goals.
Together with his teammates, they struggled to get goals last season, only managing 22 goals in their DStv Premiership campaign.
Lekay was their top goalscorer for the Premiership with four goals. Chiefs released two of their strikers Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro, leaving them thin in the striking department. They have signed Ashley Du Preez, but the former Stellenbosch star is not a traditional number nine and indications are that they want to bring in two strikers.
Meanwhile, newly signed midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi will wear No. 5 after joining Amakhosi from Soweto neighbours Swallows FC.
Zitha Khwinika, who makes a return to the club after a two-season stint with Stellenbosch FC, will pull on the No. 4 jersey previously worn by Daniel Cardoso.
Former AmaZulu midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has been given the N0. 6 jersey while versatile player Dillon Solomons will don No. 18 with midfielder Lehlogonolo Matlou taking No. 22.
