Latest on Cheeseboy Mokoena’s future at Swallows

Swallows’ veteran forward Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena’s future with the club hangs in the balance.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker’s contract with the club expired at the end of June.

FARPost can confirm that Mokoena is yet to attend a training session with the other players having begun pre-season on Monday.

In a telephonic interview, the 35-year-old winger confirmed he was out of contract, adding that he was yet to join the team as he awaits communication from them.

“I’m at home and haven’t heard from anyone at the club. I know they started training. My contract ended at the end of June,” he told FARPost.

Together with Vuyo Mere, who joined TS Galaxy in January, helped The Birds gain promotion to the topflight after winning the 2019/20 GladAfrica Championship title.

Meanwhile, the Soweto side have announced three signings so far this transfer window.

Lindokuhle Mtshali joined them from Golden Arrows on a two-year deal with an option, while Waseem Isaacs moved from Stellenbosch FC. They also added the AmaTuks duo of goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa and defender Keegan Allan, who both penned two-year deals.

“The Butcher Birds would like to welcome Lindokuhle Mtshali to the nest. The attacking midfielder was previously in the books of Golden Arrows,” the club wrote on their social media account, Twitter.

Mtshali, primarily an attacking midfielder, started his career at Real Kings before making a switch to Orlando Pirates in 2016. The Buccaneers loaned him back to Kings. Three seasons later, he joined Arrows, whom he represented for three seasons.

Maswaiswai lost seasoned striker Ruzaigh Gamildien, who joined Durban outfit Royal AM. Isaacs, revered as a natural centre-forward, comes in as his replacement. He has previously played for FC Cape Town, Cape Town All Stars, and Ubuntu FC. The 31-year-old also had a stint overseas where he featured for Michalovce in Slovakia.
