Sundowns agree loan deal for Divine Lunga

Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Divine Lunga have agreed on a loan deal for Zimbabwe international Divine Lunga.

Exactly a season after joining the Brazilians from Golden Arrows, the Warriors fullback is set to go out on loan.

FARPost can reveal that the 27-year-old defender has penned a one-season loan deal with his former club, Arrows. A source at the KZN side disclosed that an agreement was in place already.

“He’ll return to us for just a season on loan. He did well for us during his time here, and it’s a big thing to have him here again,” said the source.

Despite having finished the season strong, there is no place in the 2022/23 Sundowns squad following the arrival of the foreign trio of Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende, Ethiopia forward Abubeker Nassir and Moroccan centre-back Abdelmounaim Boutouil.

The addition of the three means the club needs to clear two slots for non-South Africans to be able to register them.

Pavol Safranko, who is also on his way out, Erwin Saavedra, Gaston Sirino and Peter Shalulile are all registered as foreign nationals as they do not hold permanent residency status.

Boutouil, who reportedly signed a five-year deal from Botola Pro side Chabab Mohammédia FC, is a left-footed central defender and plays where Lunga was deployed towards the end of the season. The 24-year-old North African is seen as a replacement for Ricardo Nascimento, who joined Royal AM in January.

On the other hand, Sifiso Ngobeni, who plays left-back and spent last season on loan at SuperSport, is currently training with the Tshwane giants. Indications are that he may stay at the club to provide cover for Lyle Lakay and Aubrey Modiba in the absence of Lunga.

He played 12 times in his maiden season with the Brazilians out of a possible 48 across all competitions. He featured in nine DStv Premiership matches, twice in the Nedbank Cup and once in the MTN8 Cup. He was never used in the CAF Champions League match.

He will be hoping for better fortunes when he returns to Arrows, where he spent three seasons after joining from Bulawayo side Chicken Inn in 2018. He scored one goal in 80 appearances for Abafana Bes’thende.
