Tau frozen out again as Al Ahly register back-to-back wins

South African star Percy Tau was dropped once again from the playing squad for Al Ahly, as the Egyptian giants beat Misr Lel Makkasa 1-0 on Wednesday evening to register back-to-back wins.

Al Ahly coach Ricardo Soares left out Tau from the squad that went on to win the maximum points with Malian Dieng on target in the first-half of the Egyptian Premier League game.

Tau was also excluded from Al Ahly’s 21-member squad that beat El Gouna FC 2-0 on Sunday, despite that he has returned to full first-team training after recovering from an injury.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that that the Bafana Bafana star could be on his way out of the Reds following the resignation of coach Pitso Mosimane who signed him last year from Brighton and Hove Albion in England.

Injuries have limited the contribution of the 28-year-old to Al Ahly’s cause after managing eight goals in 28 appearances across all competitions.

However, Mozambican winger Luis Miquissone, who returned to full training alongside his former Mamelodi Sundowns teammate last week, came on as a 67th minute replacement for Mahmoud Wahid on Wednesday.

In a post-match press conference, Soares said he was happy with the win despite that his side is struggling due to fixture congestion which is causing fatigue on his players.

The Portuguese mentor said this when justifying his decision to make several substitutions in the second-half of the league encounter.

“Today’s victory came in a very important time, as we currently have to play a lot of games in a short amount of period. We have to be realistic; we have a lot of games to play and multiple injuries which puts additional pressure on us,” Soares told Al Ahly website.

“Therefore, it was important to win today in order to be confident ahead of our upcoming games. I made several substations in order to make sure that we don’t have any additional injuries.”

The game on Wednesday also produced its latest casualties with Mohamed El Shenawy and Ayman Ashraf picking injuries.

El Shenawy picked up a knock in his face while Ayman Ashraf suffered an injury to his hand.

Al Ahly remain on third place, six points behind leaders and rivals Zamalek with a game in hand.
