‘Vila’ explains his decision to leave Sundowns
After spending six successful years with the DStv Premiership Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, Sibusiso Vilakazi has expressed his delight in finding an opportunity to start a new chapter.
Sundowns have let go of some of their players before the start of the season to make way for the new signings.
One of the players is former Bafana Bafana midfielder, Vilakazi, who has been officially unveiled as a new TS Galaxy player. The 32-year-old joins the Rockets alongside ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo.
“I didn’t hesitate when the opportunity came, and they presented it. For me, that really shows so much love for them, and I really appreciate that,” Vilakazi told the media during the official launch at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, KwaMhlanga, on Sunday.
“For me, it goes a long way, and when it happened (offered a contract), it was exciting to start a new journey, to start a new chapter which I am really looking forward to.
“In terms of the whole family and how they were able to open up their arms, it was really beautiful. It’s a family. There is respect, there is harmony, and there is love. The TS Galaxy family, which for me goes a long way also,” he added.
On reflecting on his stay at Chloorkop, Vilakazi describes it as successful but a now-closed chapter.
“With that, you can’t do anything much about it because that is the past now. The only thing that I can do much about is the season that presents itself right now. I am looking forward to it, training with the guys.
“What has happened at Sundowns for me was successful, but that chapter is closed, and I believe every good story has an end. That’s how it came about,” said Vilakazi.
“So, I am now looking at helping the galaxy family. They also have a history of success in terms of trophies. Remember they won the Nedbank cup, so it shows that it’s a team that is ambitious.”
