Can Bernard Morrison be denied a move?

Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Morrison is winding up his contract with Tanzania giants Simba SC.

The former Orlando Pirates star is arguably one of the most sought-after players in the East African country.

Without a doubt, he has not been short of suitors as he edges closer to the end of his deal with Wekundu wa Msimbazi.

However, the thought of seeing him cross the floor to bitter rivals Young Africans, has not sat well with some in the Simba camp.

“While they don’t want to keep him, they will try to frustrate his move by delaying giving him his clearance so that Yanga don’t register him for the Champions League,” a revered TV journalist said on Monday.

Interestingly, if Yanga waited for the contract to elapse in August, they would effectively not be able to register him to play in the Caf Champions League.

A source close to the player in Ghana told FARPost that a fortnight ago, the former Buccaneer sought the intervention of the Tanzania Football Federation [Legal and Player Status Committee] to obtain a release letter from the club.

According to the source, the Committee ruled that his contract with Simba lapsed on the last day of the season, which was on Wednesday, when they drew against Mbeya Kwanza.

The ruling effectively means he is free to join a club of his choice without needing clearance from his former club.
