Cardoso points out cause of Chiefs’ downfall

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso has identified the cause of the club’s downward spiral in recent years.

Amakhosi are yet to win the league in seven years, and Cardoso has pointed out where they have gone wrong.

He strongly believes the club’s poor recruitment in recent seasons was the primary reason for the club’s downfall.

Cardoso spent seven years at Naturena and failed to lift a single title after losing in four different finals and missing out on winning the league on the last day of the season.

“I think the biggest thing [problem] is the signings. Since I’ve been at Kaizer Chiefs, I’ve seen players come in and come out in six months to a year. Sometimes it’s the quality of signings that come to Chiefs. You bring in NFD players and free agents,” Cardoso told MSW.

“They are passionate about playing, but some players want to earn a salary. You can see it on the field who wants to play. Some players arrive at training under the influence of alcohol because they don’t care.”

He hopes Amakhosi will fix the mess soon because they have the tools and resources to restore the team to its glory days.

“I do hope they fix it. They have the finances. They can become a great force in football again. It’s been seven years without a trophy, and I’m hoping it doesn’t carry on longer because fans are getting impatient. When you go to the garage, shops or walking on the streets, you have to hide from shame,” he concluded.
