CCL round-up: Percy Tau shines as Al Ahly outclass ES Setif

South African forward Percy Tau stole the show when Al Ahly trounced 10-man ES Setif 4-0 at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo in the first leg of their Caf Champions League semi-final on Saturday night. The Bafana Bafana attacker struck twice and teed up his teammates twice as they put one foot in the final.

Sibusiso Mpalala runs through the Caf Champions League semi-final matches played on Saturday and predicts who will make the final.

PETRO vs WYDAD AC

Wydad AC placed one foot in the final stage after earning a 1-3 victory against Petro Atletico in the semi-final contest at the Estàdio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Saturday afternoon. The away victory was significant because they take three away goals back to Morocco in the return leg. After an abysmal performance, Petro will have a challenging hurdle to overcome and would have to score three goals without conceding to win the tie.

The sides will face off again in the second leg tie on Friday night at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.

Verdict

Wydad will use their experience to protect their lead in the return leg and will likely sail through to the final.

AL AHLY vs ES SETIF

Tau was the star man for Pitso Mosimane’s Ahly, who will be happy to have scored four goals after struggling to get goals in recent weeks. The 4-0 win should be enough to see them get to the final.

Verdict

Ahly should be able to protect their healthy lead in the second leg and secure a third successive final. Mosimane looks set to make history by becoming the first coach to win three consecutive titles.

Prediction

It looks set to be a North African final between Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca.
