Siyethemba Sithebe comments on Chiefs future as contract nears end

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has commented on his future at the club as his contract nears the end.

The 31-year-old footballer was speaking during the Soweto giants’ open media day at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Thursday morning.

Sithebe joined Chiefs from AmaZulu FC at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. The ex-Usuthu man only featured in five games across all competitions for Amakhosi this campaign. Overall, Sithebe has played 33 games in Chiefs colours.

Sithebe’s lack of game time at Chiefs this term was derailed by an injury he sustained during a training session in August 2023.

The future of the dreadlocked midfielder is hanging on thin ice at the DStv Premiership giants. His contract runs out at the end of June 2024.

Sithebe stated that he is focused on the job at hand, as he plans to help the team win the remaining six league matches.

“No, I would say obviously the contract is coming to an end, but as a player, I need to focus right now because the team needs me a lot,” said Sithebe when asked if he is feeling under pressure to perform well knowing that his contract is coming to an end.

“Also, there’s pressure that we have to play the remaining games. I think on the issue of contract, I’ll start focusing on it at the end of the season.”

Amakhosi’s next assignment will be against SuperSport United in the DStv Premiership tie on Saturday, 27 April 2024.

The showdown will take place at New Peter Mokaba Stadium, with the kickoff set for 17h30.
