Ayanda Dlamini reveals what was ‘lacking’ at AmaZulu before he took over

AmaZulu FC interim head coach Ayanda Dlamini has revealed what was “lacking” at Usuthu before he took over.

Dlamini was trusted with the club’s driver’s seat after Romain Folz was redeployed to the technical advisor role after a poor run of results.

‘Cobra’ has overseen four games at the PSL’s oldest side, winning one, drawing two and suffering defeat.

Dlamini says before he came in, Usuthu were overly defensive. Hence, with few forward movements, chances to score were always minimal.

He believes they have gotten it right, especially after coming from a 2-0 down against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

AYANDA DLAMINI ON WHAT HE HAS FIXED AT AMAZULU

“It’s not the first time working with them, I can get into their heads and motivate them very easily,” said Dlamini.

“It was all about motivating and designing training sessions suitable for them to make sure that everything they in training, they enjoy.

“Everything they do in training is prepared for the game, and they understand how the approach is.

“Most of the time, we were very defensive, but now you can see the change. The way we attack, yes, we’re conceding goals, but we are still solid at the back.

“But I think the attacking mindset was lacking before. That’s what I introduced to make sure that we attack with more numbers also and not sit at the back.

“That’s why we came back against Sundowns like this because you could see the numbers in the box everytime we put the ball in the box.

“You could see it’s a different mentality because we used to stay at the back and maybe leave one striker to fight against four defenders.”

Dlamini also added that the attitude is positive now in the dressing room rather than before.

He’s happy with the fighting spirit he has seen so far.

THE CHANGE OF ATTITUDE

“But the in attitude as well for them, it changed a lot since I came in,” he continued.

“You can see now they’re willing to work more. They are willing to fight harder in each and every game.”
