Bradley Carnell out to stamp his coaching philosophy in USA
Former Bafana Bafana defender-turned coach Bradley Carnell says he is determined to stamp his philosophy on American side St. Louis City SC.
“I am excited to continue our momentum from CITY2 and our Academy’s success into our inaugural MLS season,” Carnell told the club’s website.
“We have had a full year to put our footprint into the soccer community of St. Louis and at various levels of the U.S. soccer landscape. Now is the time to implement our philosophy and style of play.”
BRADLEY CARNELL NAMES BACKROOM STAFF
The South African said this when he announced his backroom staff ahead of the new season in the Major Soccer League.
Bradley Carnell joined St. Louis City on January 3 2022 as head coach.
He previously coached New York Red Bulls during the 2020 season for a half season as interim head coach.
Bradley Carnell will have Director of Coaching John Hackworth, John Miglarese, and Elvir Kafedžić as assistant coaches.
Director of Goalkeeping Alex Langer will serve as goalkeeper coach and Jarryd Phillips as director of sports performance.
St. Louis have since started pre-season training ahead of the new campaign, with Carnell calling for hard-work from his squad.
“Happy New Year, St. Louis! Our footprint was made in 2022. We get the chance to show this CITY what we are capable of in 2023,” he tweeted.
“Work begins January 11 when we kickoff preseason camp.”
ST. LOUIS CITY REFLECT ON NJABULO BLOM SIGNING
The American team has since signed South African midfielder Blom Njabulo from Kaizer Chiefs.
St. Louis City sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, recently described the South African defensive midfielder as the missing link in the team’s squad.
“It’s really an important piece for us,” Pfannenstiel told the club’s website.
“…to get a 23-year-old full international, his career literally taking off, it’s massive. Now we have our basics all together.
“There’s still a few little add-ons, but there’s not much out there now. We’re very, very excited, very happy, to finish the year with something like that. It’s great news for all of us.”
