Chiefs’ Arthur Zwane provides injury updates, addresses contracts matters

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has provided injury updates ahead of Saturday’s DStv Premiership clash against Marumo Gallants

Amakhosi will welcome the relegation-threatened side, Gallants, at FNB Stadium, with the kick-off set for 20:00.

The Soweto giants have been victims of injury issues in the current campaign, which might have hindered the club’s progress.

But, in the last five games, Zwane’s troops seem to have found their mojo back despite some of their key players being on the sidelines due to severe injuries.

The Glamour Boys are left with six games to play in the current season, and the team’s recent run of victories will serve as motivation to continue to do well.

“Players like Khama [Billiat] and Nkosingiphile [Ngcobo], I think, are the two players that at the moment are still far from coming back,” Zwane told the media.

“Reeve [Frosler] is fighting for fitness, Cole [Alexander] has also been doing well, and ‘Tower’ [Eric Mathoho] is also fighting for fitness.”

ARTHUR ZWANE ADDRESSES CONTRACTS MATTERS

The 49-year-old mentor went on to address the issues of contracts of the injured players whose deals will be coming to an end.

Players like Billiat and Mathoho are some of the players whose contracts at Chiefs will run out at the end of the current campaign.

Zwane reiterated that their decisions on the players would not be based on their injuries but on what they can bring to the team.

“Look, as a club; we have a plan and that plan we have been working on with all these players. We know that they have been contributing very well,” he added.

“Unfortunately, injuries are injuries, you know. Also, the injury doesn’t mean they are no longer part of the team.

“We will wait until the end of the season. And discuss the individuals that we think we can move on with—especially going into this project because that’s key.

“So, that won’t be defined by their injuries right now. It should be about what they can give the team in the future.”
