Chippa coach Gwambi makes honest admission on monumental task

Chippa United interim coach Siyabulela Gwambi has made an honest admission on the monumental task of saving the club from relegation.

The Chilli Boys lost 3-1 to relegation rivals Marumo Gallants at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The result means the Eastern Cape side are now second from bottom on the DStv Premiership log with just four matches to go.

Since their promotion to the PSL in 2011, Chippa are not strangers to flirting with relegation. They find themselves in a similar situation this time around having parted ways with coach Kurt Lentjies a few days ago.

Now in charge until the end of the current season, Gwambi admits it is going to be an uphill task to save the club’s status.

SIYABULELA GWAMBI’S HONEST ADMISSION

“Definitely, it’s not going to be easy. It’s an uphill climb if you look from position eight right down there is only one point difference,” Gwambi told the media.

“So it’s just a matter of winning one game then we will see the whole log standings will change. It’s just that we have to soldier on and hopefully that only that win will change the position we are sitting on now.”

KEY TO SURVIVAL A MENTAL ISSUE FOR CHIPPA UNITED

“It’s definitely a mental issue now because we want the boys to believe every time they go and play. You can do all the conditioning that you can do but on the field of play the tactics of the day will talk.

“So it is an uphill battle, but it’s a physiological aspect that we have to make the boys believe that they can do it and it is achievable,” he said.

“It’s not a nice position to be in, but we have been in this position before and we survived. We will try and push again until the last huddle.”
