Du Preez hits back at claims that Chiefs are benefiting from match officials 

Kaizer Chiefs winger Ashley Du Preez has hit back at claims that Amakhosi are beneficiaries of favourable officiating in the PSL. 

This comes after his former coach Steve Barker suggested that Chiefs were being favoured by the match official during the DStv Premiership clash between Stellenbosch FC and the Glamour Boys over the weekend. 

Barker reckons that most of the decisions went against them, speaking in a post-match outburst on Saturday, 1 April 2023. 

Du Preez has since responded to the claims that the Soweto giants having benefitting from match officials. 

The 25-year-old footballer was on the scoresheet when Chiefs defeated Stellies 2-1 at FNB Stadium. He scored Amakhosi’s first goal from a spot kick which was the team’s 10th penalty of the season. 

‘PLAYERS DON’T CONTROL THE REFEREE AND LINESMEN’ 

“The players don’t control the referee and linesmen,” Du Preez told the club’s media department. 

“They make the decisions. We are just there to do our best.”

Shifting focus to Saturday’s league encounter against Marumo Gallants, the talented player is gunning to add more goals to his tally. 

The game will start at 20:00 at FNB Stadium.

“As a team, we are preparing well for the game, and I am personally looking forward to it. We want to continue winning. It is our aim every time we step onto the field,” he added. 

“From an individual perspective, I want to score goals that help the team win.

 “We don’t look at where our opponents lie in the league. We take it as a match we have to play and we focus on how we are going to win on the day.”

Currently, Chiefs sit fourth on the log standings with 40 points after 24 outings.
