Five teams that will join Bafana Bafana at the 2023 AFCON
Bafana Bafana has qualified for the 2023 AFCON, set to take place in Ivory Coast next year. And with the qualifiers nearing the end, five teams have joined Hugo Broos’ troops.
Bafana booked their place in the 2023 AFCON on Tuesday, 28 March, as runner- ups in group k.
They collected the much-needed three points away in Liberia following the disappointing first-leg display against the Lone Stars on Friday, 24 March, at the Orlando Stadium.
ANOTHER GROUP K TEAM THAT JOINS BAFANA
This qualification puts Hugo Broos’ charges in the same boat as the other group K team, Morocco.
The North African country won group K, after securing wins against Bafana and Liberia.
Since the suspended Zimbabwe is also in group K, all the games against the nation will be ruled out.
THE REST OF THE TEAMS THAT QUALIFIED FOR THE 2023 AFCON SO FAR
The third team set to make an appearance at the 2023 AFCON next year in January is the African Champions, Senegal.
Senegal won all their four games so far in their group, securing all 12 points. Their last two games in the qualifiers will be against Benin [away] and Rwanda at home.
The 2019 AFCON Champions, Algeria, replicated the same run as Senegal in their respective group. Also securing themselves a place in Ivory Coast next year for the next tournament.
Tunisia and Burkina Faso both qualified with 10 points. However their positions as the group winners in their respective groups is still in question.
The rest of the qualifiers will be played later this year in June and September. And the rest of the remaining teams that are yet to qualify will have to fight for the 17 spots remaining.
As only 24 teams will be allowed to take part in the tournament for the first time ever this time around.
